Mascot met Elke and Joaquín during a Mayday dog walk in December 2023. It took about fifteen minutes for Elke to realise that this very fluffy dog needed to be part of their lives.
The early months were not simple. Mascot was frightened by motorcycles, horses, cows and many of the ordinary things they encountered outside. Walks could quickly become overwhelming, and his instinct was to escape from whatever scared him.
Elke and Joaquín gave him time. They learned, adjusted their approach and helped him experience the world at a pace he could manage. Gradually, the list of frightening things became smaller and Mascot's confidence began to grow.
He now lives with them in a tiny house surrounded by land, where he takes his self-appointed role as chief supervisor very seriously. If Joaquín is building something, Mascot is there. If somebody is working in the garden, he is watching. He also enjoys car rides, trips to the beach and the freedom to run in places where it is safe.
Mascot has become a familiar face locally, helped by a talent for looking especially charming whenever free attention might be available. The dog who once found the outside world so difficult now has a rich, active life within it.
His progress came from patience rather than pressure. By giving Mascot safety, consistency and room to learn, Elke and Joaquín helped him become the confident companion and meticulous project manager he was always capable of being.
