This notice explains how Mayday Algarve handles personal information submitted through this website. It was last updated on 24 September 2026.

Who is responsible for your information

The data controller is MAYDAY-ASSOCIAÇÃO DE PROTEÇÃO DE ANIMAIS, NIPC 514 844 140, a registered association in Portugal that uses the public name Mayday Algarve. Its postal address is Vale Afonso Gil, Barranco do Bispo, Apartado 125, 8650-400 Vila do Bispo, Portugal. Privacy questions can be sent to maydayalgarve@outlook.com.

Information Mayday collects

Contact, adoption and volunteer forms may ask for your name, contact details and the information needed to understand your enquiry, proposed home, experience, availability or practical needs. Mayday also receives the information you choose to include in messages and subsequent correspondence. Please do not send sensitive information that Mayday has not requested.

Why the information is used

Mayday uses this information to reply to enquiries, take steps you request in relation to adoption or volunteering, assess whether an arrangement is suitable, organise visits or placements, keep necessary records and comply with legal obligations. The applicable legal bases are taking steps at your request, Mayday's legitimate interests in operating the refuge and arranging safe placements, and compliance with legal obligations where relevant.

Optional marketing

Enquiry and application details are not used for unrelated marketing. If Mayday offers an optional news or fundraising signup, it will ask for separate consent and provide a way to withdraw that consent. Choosing not to receive marketing does not affect an enquiry, adoption application or volunteer application.

Service providers and third-party websites

Website forms are processed and stored through Netlify so authorised Mayday team members can review and respond to them. Mayday also uses its email provider when corresponding with you. Website content and dog photographs may be delivered from Webflow, but form details are not submitted to Webflow through this site.

Links to PayPal, Teaming, Amazon, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram take you to services with their own privacy notices. The contact page embeds Google Maps, which may receive technical information such as your IP address and browser details when the map loads. Payment and account information entered on an external service is handled by that service, not by this website.

International transfers

Some service providers may process information outside Portugal or the European Economic Area. Where personal information is transferred internationally, Mayday relies on the safeguards made available by the relevant provider and applicable data-protection law. The provider's privacy notice explains its locations and transfer safeguards in more detail.

How long information is kept

Mayday keeps personal information only for as long as it is needed to deal with the enquiry or application, manage any resulting arrangement and meet applicable legal or record-keeping obligations. Different enquiries require different follow-up, so Mayday does not apply one fixed period to every submission. Information that is no longer needed should be deleted or anonymised.

Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing. Email maydayalgarve@outlook.com to make a request. Mayday may need to confirm your identity before responding.

Complaints

Please contact Mayday first if you have a privacy concern so the team can try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to Portugal's supervisory authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD).

This website does not currently use an analytics or advertising service. Mayday will update this notice if the services used by the website or its processing practices materially change.
