How do I adopt a pet?
You would need to come to our shelter or another venue where we have our animals. We will show you around and give you historical information as best as we are able on any animal you like. We will introduce you to any animal you are interested in and you would be able to spend time with that animal to help you make up your mind. You do not need to take that animal with you on the day. In fact we encourage you to visit the animal again on another day, or even a few more times if necessary, so you would have time to think the adoption through and decide that it is the right animal for you.
Are there any adoption requirements?
When adopting a dog, a contract will need to be signed so that you agree to take responsibility of the dog, take good care of and protect the dog, get the dog sterilised if not already done so, never chain or lock the dog up and agreed to keep the dog legal in this country. Wherever possible we will conduct a home check, or arrange to have one done for us by a qualified home checker.
How to avoid picking the wrong pet?
Come and spend time with the animal. Get to know the history behind why s/he is now in a shelter. Look at where you live and try to choose an animal that will fit into your lifestyle. Talk to us about any concerns you may have.
Vet Q&A: Are pets for adoption healthy?
All of our animals are kept in good condition are healthy; protected from fleas and ticks; are wormed regularly and are vaccinated. Also they are usually microchipped prior to being adopted. For any dogs over one year old we suggest that you get a blood test done to ensure that they have no underlying health problems.
